Why White Rock Branding 'made in California'? Why Not Listen To the Whispers Of Local Talents and Communicators 'of our own'?
'BRANDING, DREAMING AND DESTROYING WHITE ROCK, BC?'
"My stroll on Silver Beach" A most 'enchanting island', White Rock, presents itself as a very challenging course of obstacles hard to avoid colliding with during the stroll along 'Silver Beach'.
Branding is a process that will not deliver tangible results and benefits until maturing ; an incubation period of no less than a few years or perhaps never is the risk and may be expected; never ever will deliver 'the good' to citizens, residents and the market organisations as intended.
Proposed by a faint whisper from the golden state of California and in this case a star struck Newport Beach in Orange County, USA, I reflect and I ponder and wonder...why is all this being done to us all and residents of White Rock, BC.
My island an image as proposed and perhaps to adopt the 'coat and arms' of White Rock is obviously a 'dream scape' and turns out to be a real challenge for my imagination; and I thought I had plenty of that in reserve. Oh, no!
I am dreaming...please say it's so...
I see in city council chambers; chamber filled with city council members I see everyone with the features of Pinocchio, donning float vests and paddles ready to leave to take their first tour of paddling and excursion off of Silver Beach.
To venture out in the water and this in the pursuit of finding the ends of the railroad tracks....after all the tracks must be coming from somewhere;and lead to somewhere... the train I mean....but on an island?
I don't know. I don't think so.
Wake up my man...It's $70,000.00 at stake here..let 'em paddle...they may all come back and to reconsider 'branding ambitions'; instead getting into pre-election mode and ready to assemble focus to nurture for the fall election soon around the corner.
Elections are soon. Grab your candidate by the tail and whisper the truth or give the subject an earful of what's on your mind. Vote.
There are many ways to skin a cat and this is not the best way to perform and resolve the challenging exercises of 'branding' White Rock. Let it just be the 'construction zone and congested daytime traffic chaos it is' 6 days a week.
Let's first see what is about to become from the long term OCP and plans and profiles envisaged by Council to satisfy residents. Let White Rock as a community catch up and then settle down before it is given all sorts of intellectual brawn beating and subtle cliches seemingly proposed by the Whisper Consultant.
I don't want to bore you with details about Whisper and their proposal for 'branding'. I leave the navel gazing to those hoping to be paid $70,000.00 for 'work considered by most and also by pros, to be of very little substance and essence and missing clarity but just delivering fig-lingo [language] and psychedelic phraseology printed on pages of paper.
The results we've seen so far are not encouraging. Task and 'dreaming' could have been produced by students at the UBC [University of British Columbia] specializing in social science, communication, marketing and population/communication and sociology and a few six packs.
BY LOCAL.
I say with no hesitation that it is my opinion that there is nobody 'sitting in Council' today who is competent and has the capacity and adequate experience to evaluate, negotiate the results delivered so far by Whisper in California.
Is this going to become another fiasco...? An escapade costing time and money and occupying the already over worked and busy staff of the city with more unproductive angst and bother? Another nuisance would be nice to avoid this summer.
Communication Officer -full time not part time, required.
On to another, [perhaps?] contentious issue and subject...is the City of White Rock 'under-staffed'? A bird whispered in my ear that so is the case. Some of staff is overworked and have a hard time keeping up with issues of necessity. The paper flow is immense and there seem to be no end to what is calling for staff's attention.
I know for sure and my point is this. I feel sorry for the manager of the city, the CEO, she won't or cannot consider the obvious...that a communication officer of the caliber now employed on part time would serve more effectively and be busy as a bee full time.
Communication officers have a well rounded scope of experience, work and large area of responsibility and a good hunk of work cut out for them in any organisation of the type White Rock represents, too.
White Rock would be well served if only there were the efforts of the employer to 'think full time' instead of present part time. A city and resort and with its mandate as I can see our community to have, require nothing less than a full time communication Officer in place.
The person would be engaged in numerous promotional activities as well and to serve staff and councilors. A full time resource and staff member would be valuable and a desired contribution to all and foremost to direct and indirect support the needs of the residents of our city.
Public relations has been on the back burner for too long in White Rock.
Many of the challenges experienced by Council could have been avoided and diverted to serve best had a full time and occupied communication persons been on full time and thus able to serve accordingly.
Our new millennium require vertical and horizontal communication as is the case in every organisation today. Look around to see what our neighbours have and DO FINE WITH. We wish THE SAME STRINGENCY IN MANAGEMENT AND LEADERSHIP BY THE MAYOR OF WHITE ROCK.
